.: MUTANT/EXTRAORDINARY ABILITIES
X-Factor:
Alison Blair has the unique born ability to transduce sonic vibrations which reach her body into various types of light. This ability seems to operate over a great range of frequencies, including the audible spectrum, and a great variation of sound pressure levels regardless of the complexity, dissonance, or randomness of the sound. Sounds as different as a car crash and a symphonic passage both produce convertable incoming acoustic vibrations. Left undirected, Dazzler's light will radiate from her body in all directions, producing regular flashes of white light. By conscious control over the light she produces, she can control its direction, frequency (color), amplitude (intensity), and duration. Dazzler can produce numerous effects. She can create simple patterns out of rays of light or combinations of patterns which produce trance-like effects in her targets. She can create a pulse of light on the order of several thousand watts of power, which temporarily blinds people with its brilliance. She can create a chaotic cascade of sparkling lights and colors that severely upsets other people's equilibrium, or a pulsating strobe-light effect. Dazzler can generate a coherent beam of light, approximating a laser beam.
She generally directs lasers from a single finger when she requires precision. She most often uses her hands for directing her light effects, but she could also use other parts of her body. Since studying with the X-Men, she has become adept at directing her blinding strobe light blast from her eyes. The most powerful manifestation of her abilities is a concentrated beam of solid photons she usually fires from her right index finger. The beam is extremely powerful and as a consequence uses a great deal of her energy reserves. She has since learned how to produce these blasts without draining herself, while still providing them with considerable power. She is able to produce these sounds thanks to the exposure of unimaginable sounds and an exploding galaxy courtesy of Galactus. Alison's body can store light energy for future discharge on occasional instances of extreme duress.
Dazzler is immune to the injurious effects of her light transducing abilities. Her ability to transduce sound also protects her from being deafened by loud sounds. Dazzler can release the stored sound inside her in its original form, for a sonic blast! There is no limit to the sound she can absorb and release as light. At one time, the powerful being known as Galactus needed her to enter a black hole because of the enormous amount of light Dazzler can produce allowed her to be able to see through it! Alison's powers has much potential to be explored. The young lady just might be capable of much more and she doesn't know it just yet. [Credit: Wikipedia, Comicvine and UncannyX-Men.net]
Skills/Weapons/Other:
Although beautiful, Dazzler is one gifted individual capable of many talents! The most obvious is the gorgeous singing voice she has been popularly known for. She was once told by Odin, the all powerful Norse God that she has the most beautiful voice he has ever heard! Her voice has been a source of success in Dazzler’s entertainment career, including top 10 and sometimes number 1 hit singles and albums! She is considered a triple threat in the entertainment business, being also a successful dancer and actress to go with her great singing voice. Besides singing, dancing, and acting, Dazzler is no stranger to athletics, playing sports in high school. She is trained very well in hand-to-hand combat and extremely agile thanks to her time with the X-Men. She is especially excellent on roller skates that magnetically adheres to her boots. As a performer, Alison once did her shows in roller skates and even fought battles in her skates without so much trouble.
Weaknesses:
Without sound, Dazzler is unable to use her mutant powers, therefore rendering her helpless in times her powers are most needed. It has been seen before that Ali is prone to some depression if she’s not singing or using her talents. Singing and performing is her passion and without her voice, she will feel she’s nothing. The woman has to use her skills in some fashion to be happy and/or satisfied. There has been noted times Dazzler will bite off more than she chew. This means she may feel no challenge is too big for her to handle on her own. A recorded instance would be the time she battled Juggernaut one-on-one, but came up short and near death! Had Juggernaut not been a fan of her music, he would have killed her. Added to that part of her stubborn personality is if she hears from people, especially friends say she can’t do "this" or can’t do "that". For her, a challenge was made and she will most likely prove her nay-sayers wrong to the best of her ability.
.: PERSONAL DETAILS
Physical Description:
Ali has piercing blue eyes, smooth milky skin, and an athletically toned body with curves in the right places to accentuate. Because Dazzler is also a known celebrity, she has almost two identities physically, like a light and dark side. For her public persona, Alison is seen with her strawberry blonde hair, which is her natural hair color. However, in recent times, she’s decided to make a change with a shaved hair cut and dyed her hair pink for her every day living and in the battle field as an X-Man. The pink hair and low key style is a means to keep her life obscure from tabloids. Instead, she has a long and luscious blonde wig stored away that looks like her natural hair to wear for the public eye if the need arises. More on this matter in her biography.
In her X-Men uniform, Ali wears a long sleeve mid-riff blue top with a yellow spark in the center of the top, a black leather jacket, and tight light brown pants with dark brown chaps and black boots. In her public/celebrity appearance, Ali wears her blonde hair with extremely fashionable clothes made from greats in the fashion industry accessorized with expensive jewelry. Performing on stage, Dazzler will wear a lot of great fashion trends, but on occassion will throw back to the beginnings of her career and wear her famous mirrored outfits, sometimes with the roller skates and blue patches on her eyes. On her off days, Ali relaxes in comfortable clothes ranging in a variety of jeans, shorts, t-shirts, t-shoes (and no blonde wig) or if dressing up nicely depending on the occasion, her style can show in business casual or formal clothing such as nice dresses ranging in style and design.
Personality:
Normally, Ali is a bubbly personality. She's full of life and fun, meaning she will express herself in many ways rather it be singing, dancing, or acting. For the talented Alison Blair, she is an artist at its purest form. No matter the mood she could be feeling for a specific day or time, Ali will express herself in different forms that feel natural to express her feelings. Her biggest and truest passion is music. Music is like breathing for Alison, without she cannot breathe. Her moods, her thoughts, her feelings, her opinions, her convictions...her life is expressed in music. A veteran performer, Alison gladly performs at night clubs all over town, country, or the world in many settings. Living at the mansion, she may do night club gigs on the side so that she may continue to make music. Besides of the brightest artists in the music scene, Ali is a regular down to earth young woman. She cares about the people she loves and if in her circle, they earn her loyalty and trust.
As an X-Man on the battle field, Alison under the name Dazzler to most, is much like her performer side - always striving to give the best performance possible. She does not want to fail in any mission she's in, rather on the battle field or in her normal every day life. Considered maybe a perfectionist at times and stubborn, Dazzler will take on a challenge head strong and prove she's very much capable of overcoming any obstacle thrown her way. Depending on the obstacle, this could be a good thing or bad thing to Dazzler's personality. For instance, if ever doubted she can handle herself, as it has happened before - she will show her doubters she's got what it takes to stand on her own. As noted previously, some members of the X-Men doubted Alison could handler herself in battle and when things were threatened by the Juggernaut, she battled the behemoth one-on-one. Perhaps over confident and taking on more than she can chew, she let her ego get the best of her, almost costing her life in battle against Cain Marko!
Despite a stubborn, slightly ego-ish, and the strive to always be the best in whatever comes her way - Dazzler is an excellently polite, caring, trustworthy, creative, brave, strong, and independent soul.
History:
Like many mutants, Alison Blair discovered she was mutant as teenager. Interestingly enough, her mutant gifts would manifest when in high school, she was performing for a high school talent contest while she was singing a song. On stage, Ali began to emit bursts of light during her song. Following the performance, Ali was terrified and was determined to keep her mutant powers a secret. Though her mutant powers manifested the night of the talent show, her performance was a success. That night, the performance bug bit her, therefore getting her first taste of live performance. From that night on and into adulthood, she wanted to make singing her career path. This did not sit well her father, a judge, Carter Blair. He was infuriated that his daughter would want to become a singer over following his footsteps in the career path of law. Determined to not let her father's disapproval keep her dreams down, Ali came up with a clever scheme to use her mutant powers as a gimmick to her advantage as a singer in her performances and would let viewers believe her powers were nothing but special effects.
Needing a stage name, Alison began to call herself "The Dazzler". Adorned in mirrored costumes, make-up, and roller skates, she started her career path to perform on stage. One of Ali's first jobs was in the form of an audition, where she beat out the Asgardian, Enchantress! The Asgardian goddess did everything she could to nail the audition, including her using her godly powers to her advantage, but Alison proved to have too much natural born talent to win the audition. On the night of the audition, an angered Enchantress attacked Alison during the show where even prominent known superheroes were also in attendance! However, the rookie Dazzler made the upset when she defeated Enchantress and thus began the reluctant cycle of becoming a superhero in her own right.
On her path to becoming a singer, Alison was met with many obstacles and challenges, including being detected by the X-Men and The Hellfire Club! Both groups proceeded to meet up with Dazzler in hopes of recruiting her to their ranks, but The Hellfire Club more so with force. During a performance on stage, The Hellfire Club struck fast, trying to take Dazzler away, but thanks to aid of the X-Men, Dazzler escaped the clutches of The Hellfire Club. Alongside the X-Men, Dazzler defeated The Hellfire Club and in the end was offered an opportunity to join the X-Men, but it just wasn't in the cards as Alison declined the offer, however in the process made new allies. Continuing her music career and performing at her first stadium show, she soon was forced to battle The Hulk who as Bruce Banner been working on the show as a roadie. Dazzler managed to subdue The Hulk and calm the raging the beast with her powerful bursts of light that soothed him. Eventually after her battle with The Hulk, she found out that the secret government agency, Project Pegasus, wanted to study her for her powers.
Brought in by the agency, Alison was tested by Pegasus extensively and exhausted the poor woman. Scientist concluded there was no limit to the sound she could transduce into light. When a fellow subject of Pegasus, Klaw - who was composed of solid sound, escaped to battle Quasar, head of Pegasus security, and whom Alison shared a romantic interest in, Dazzler absorbed Klaw completely, believing she had killed the criminal! Remorseful, Dazzler escaped Project Pegasus and suddenly captured by the being known as Galactus. Galactus captured Dazzled because of her mutant powers and needed her because she was the only being who could light the way to see through a black hole. His former herald, Terrax betrayed Galactus fled away into the black hole to hide from the enormous being. To find Terrax, Galactus super-charged Dazzler and sent her on her way.
Not exactly a great person, Terrax battled Dazzler, but came up short in the end. For punishment, Dazzler returned Terrax to Galactus. For her success, Galactus returned Dazzler back to Earth, where she then presumed her music career. Things came to a crashing holt when she found herself framed for murder! As means to get back at Alison for leaving Project Pegasus, they claimed Dazzler murdered Klaw and presented a video of the incident as proof of evidence. The evidence showed Dazzler in great control of her powers and her claim the incident was an accident had to be a lie. On Ryker's Island, the night before her trial, she ran into some trouble with the Grapplers. The female villain group wanted to see the woman responsible for Klaw's death and see how tough Alison must be if she was able to kill Klaw. Things didn't exactly go to plan for the villainess group as one of the members, Screaming Mimi, found her screams being absorbed by Alison therefore charring up Dazzler to release a giant light burst that laid out the entire Grapplers gang! Thankfully, Quasar came and testified on behalf of Ali, helping to clear her of all charges. Dazzler began to develop a relationship with Ken Barnette, her lawyer during the trial.
Just as her music career was on the upswing, the Asgardian goddess Enchantress was still fuming over her audition loss to the human mutant, Dazzler. Booked to perform with the popular Bruce Harris as an opening act, she was very much liked by the crowd and the fans actually liked her more than Bruce! But then suddenly, Alison found herself in Asgard where the Enchantress wanted to settle the score in battle! The god of gods in Asgard, Odin was quickly disturbed when he saw the battled between Enchantress and Dazzler. Interfering, he wanted to see what the fight was about. Enchantress claimed that Dazzler cheated to win a singing audition. Deciding to end the fight, Odin made it for both women to sing in front of all of Asgard! Both women gave it their all, but the Asgardians were touched more so by Ali's voice, declaring her the winner of the competition again much to Enchantress' disapproval. Odin meanwhile told Ali she had the best singing voice he's ever heard.
Following her victory over Enchantress, Ali was soon invited to join The Avengers on two occasions. When The Avengers had a meeting to decide on the next member to join their roster, Moondragon invaded and to demonstrate her superior mental abilities, she telepathically summoned many possible recruits to the Avengers mansion. Among the recruits were Dazzler, but she explained that she wanted to be a singer, not a superhero. Sensing Ali's true passion, Moondragon released her. Several weeks later, when The Avengers were in need of new members, Dazzler was apart of the few super powered females personally invited by Avengers member Wasp to join the ranks. Wasp felt the team needed more ladies on the roster. Again however, Dazzler declined the invite.
At this point, it was probably about time that men would take notice in Alison and want to attract her attention. However, none could be as successful as Warren Worthington III, also known as Angel of the X-Men. Warren was quite the playboy and no stranger to a flood of women, but he began courting Alison in earnest, seeing there was something different about Alison than the other women he's ever been with. At first, Ali found Warren to be a jerk and too annoying, but when he took for a flight over New York City, literally sweeping the songstress off her feet, Ali fell into his courtship and the two shared a passionate kiss. But at the time, Ali was seeing another man in a lawyer, Ken Barnette as he was the lawyer who defended her during her trail over the death of Klaw! No doubt Warren's advances endangered her relationship with Ken. Over the next few days, the pair continued to see each other until one day, they spotted Dr. Octopus! Warren quickly flew into action taking Dazzler with him! He actually put both their lives on the line, when Alison did not want to get involved and instead preferred the pros handle the situation with Dr. Octopus. Angry, Ali told Warren to leave her alone, but he would not give up so easily. To prove his love, he tracked down Ali's lost mother!
Getting information about Ali's mother, Warren turned to Ali's grandmother, Bella Blair. She however refused to give away the family secret. Instead, she told him that Ali's father, Carter could not handle that his daughter abandoned him. Brooding in a room alone, Alison met her father and was the only one to snap him out of her brooding trance. The two got into another argument, but then Carter finally admitted the reason why he forbade Ali to enter a singing career. He did not want Alison to be like her mother and leave the family for her career. Alison refused to believe her father and left! Returning home, she was surprised by Harry Osgood when he told her he arranged a performance at Carnegie Hall for her! To another surprise, before going on stage, Ali was met by her father backstage. The two met up as Carter saw that the more he continued to push his daughter away, the more he will loose her. In a turning point, Ali was ready to leave the entertainment business claiming she was tired of people in the business offering drugs to her and only got the gig because of being good friends with The Avengers.
Thankfully, a fellow singer - Vanessa, stopped Ali from leaving. Vanessa discovered recently that her singing teacher, Barbara London, was non-other than Alison's mother! As it turns out, long ago, Barbara became entangled with another man and became pregnant. The man she was seeing - Nick Brown - started to drink and consume drugs, forcing Barbara to leave him. After leaving Nick, Barbara began her life anew and with a new identity. Though not as a singer, but as a teacher, Vanessa explained that Barbara was nervous to meet Alison in person and convinced her to continue going on stage. Alison knew she had no other choice and found out that a way to reach out to her mother would be performing on stage. The last song, "A little Girl's Dream" was dedicated to Barbara by Alison. The performance was a tear jerker and touched the whole audience, including Barbara who sat in the crowd. Afterwards, Barbara met up with Carter and Alison where the family sorted out their differences.
Things continued to look up for Dazzler when she started receiving major success with a major record deal! She began recording an album. She spent many days and hours in the studio, proud of all the work she accomplished with her band. The downside was that Ken, Ali's boyfriend has been missing in action and was supposed to meet her in the studio. She began thinking Ken was not interested in her career, but in his own career as a lawyer. Needing someone to talk, Alison contacted Warren - a.k.a. Angel. By this time, she considered Warren a good friend and together, they literally flew off. Before they knew it, the duo found themselves in trouble when Mystique, who was still miffed from the spoiled assassination attempt on Senator Robert Kelly failed thanks to the X-Men, wanted revenge. Angel was the only identity made public out of the X-Men group, which made him easy to spot. Mystique gave her teammate and adopted daughter, Rogue, a task to absorb Angel and find out the X-Men's whereabouts. But the thought of absorbing Angel and possibly his wings freaked Rogue and did not want to use her absorbing powers on him! Meanwhile, Dazzler caught Rogue and Mystique off guard with her light powers.
Eventually, Rogue began to develop a grudge against Dazzler, believing Ali was a woman who has had everything handed to her in life and given all she ever wanted. Rogue was originally a fan of Ali's music, but then she saw Dazzler had control of her own powers and beautiful boyfriend. This only frustrated and made Rogue jealous, fighting with Dazzler on a few occasions. One such memorable instance was when Rogue endangered Alison's half-sister, Lois London! Over the next weeks, Lois began to experience various headaches and even fainted a few times. Finally, as she took a walk to get some air while Alison performed in a club, Lois was attacked by a would-be mugger. She panicked, her hand started to glow and the mugger died. Lois went to Dazzler for help and Ali, with memories of her own murder trial still fresh, didn't think Lois would be treated fairly. The sisters decided to hit the road and travel to California. As people kept recognizing Ali, she disguised herself with a black wig. However, they were still followed, as somebody blackmailed them with photos of Lois and the
When Ali called the phone number attached to the pictures, she was told that they had to break into a certain house and kill the man sleeping inside. Dazzler pretended to go through with the crime, but secretly she called Warren Worthington for back-up. At night, they broke into the house and, after a short fight, it turned out that the owner was Nick Brown, Lois‘s father. After becoming a successful agent and financier, he had been paying his butler to track down Lois. The butler witnessed the death of the mugger and it was he who blackmailed the sisters into trying to kill his master, as he wanted to steal Brown’s fortune. Thanks to Angel's timely arrival, the crime was prevented and, with the pictures, Lois was easily cleared of all charges. They showed that she was actually defending herself and, fortunately, the crackling aura of energy was not even seen on the photos.
During the time of their escape, Alison’s record had become a hit and was played on the radio. Nick decided to help her with his media connections and, soon, she was doing publicity stills all over Los Angeles. He even introduced Dazzler to Roman Nekobah, a famous but aging singer and actor. Nekobah’s last record was a flop and the plan was to boost Alison’s career with his name, while he would profit from being seen with a beautiful new talent. Roman took Ali for a flight in his private jet, but they were attacked and only barely survived thanks to Dazzler’s light powers. When Alison returned home from the hospital, Nick blamed her for not taking advantage of the free publicity. He would have exploited the incident with headlines about the promising singer being in critical condition.
Alison and Nick argued and, finally, when he admitted that, if he had had the idea, he would have sent the killer after them himself, just to create a good media scenario, she decided to leave the Brown estate. Alison thought that Lois would leave as well, but she couldn’t. She felt that she needed somebody to protect her and Nick seemed the best choice. When she called Harry Osgood in New York, Alison had to learn that he would not renew their contract, despite her success. He thought that being based in New York, he could not get her enough jobs and auditions, as Los Angeles is a lot more centered around the movie industry and most of his contacts are strictly music business. For Ali, this meant she had to start from scratch; new apartment, new auditions and castings and to earn a living as aerobic instructor and as a model. She got minor jobs in the media business. For example, once she got to perform in a music video "Chiller." The setting had various zombies crawl from their graves and dance but Dazzler’s grave was sabotaged and had no breathing hole. The director planned to have the scandal of a popular singer dying on the set boost the success of the song. However, the plan failed and Alison got out in time.
Nekobah kept calling Alison and sent her flowers until he finally managed to seduce her. He then tried to make her a star and had new clothes bought for her so that they could attend various promo appearances together. Soon, there were rumors about a movie starring both of them and then the project was actually decided. Alison was unaware that the movie was funded by Eric Beale, a man who had earlier tried to get her attention, but she had turned him down. Beale had figured out that she was a mutant and he given this knowledge to Nekobah, who decided to create more media hype of it. He deliberately leaked the knowledge to the press and had Ali demonstrate her power in public. Nekobah had invited the press to an airport, where Dazzler absorbed the sound of six 747 jets at full force and she started to glow. Yet, it was too loud and the people started to panic, so Alison strained herself really hard to take in all the noise and, suddenly, it was dead silent.
Dazzler absorbed every little bit of sound from the jets and from the panicking crowd as well. She glowed so brightly that she was seen from as far away as the lunar surface. The publicity stunt backfired and anti-mutant hysteria rose. Afterwards, Ali discovered that the incident had changed her body. She was now able to store absorbed sound energy like a battery and could release it later. She no longer had to rely on her pocket radio or other sources of sound to create her light blasts. With her secret outed, Alison thought about not taking part in the movie. However, as it was supposed to portray mutants in a positive light, she felt that she had to do it. Finally, when the filming was done, Nekobah dropped her like a hot potato, as being seen with a mutant was ruining the remains of his career. Dazzler was invited to Eric Beale’s office, who tried to blackmail her. He wanted to own Alison, body and soul; otherwise he wouldn’t release the movie. Thinking of the good it would do for mutantkind’s image, Dazzler hesitated but then burned the only copy of the film with her light powers as a laser.
Completely unemployable, as a performer or even in menial jobs, Dazzler was approached by Flynn, who was working for a mutant circus and gladiator show. They gave her a drug that made her slowly lose control of powers and Alison was even more of an outcast than before. Ali found a new home at the Heartbreak Hotel, an asylum for misfit mutants, where she was found by the Beast and they fell in love with each other. However, when Flynn offered her the chance to perform again, she couldn’t resist. At first, she started to sing but the audience of the gladiator circus booed, so she joined the fights in the Arena. The Beast found out that she was drugged and made to perform against her will, yet a rescue attempt failed and he was captured and drugged as well. The Gladiators then pitted them against each other in a duel of Beauty vs. Beast. During the fight, Alison nearly killed Beast, but then she remembered that they were in love and it broke the spell they were under. After Flynn, the theatre’s leader, was dealt with, the Gladiators promised to go straight and run the Circus themselves, without having to rely on drugs.
Afterwards, Alison got lucky, as she was hired as a session singer by Lila Cheney. Neither woman knew that the other was a mutant as well, until Lila’s boyfriend, Cannonball of the New Mutants, dropped by, asking for help. Two of his teammates, Sunspot and Magma had been kidnapped by the operatives of the Arena; there had been no change at all, the Gladiators still kidnapped and drugged young mutants to turn them into Gladiators. Dazzler opted to help Kitty Pryde, Rachel Summers and the New Mutants to rescue their friends – partially, though, because she needed to prove to herself that she wasn’t as addicted to fame and adrenalin as the Gladiators. Pretending to rejoin them, Dazzler had to perform in the Arena several times until she gathered enough information for the New Mutants to plan an attack. When she heard the cheers of the audience, Alison was tempted to stay with the Gladiators but ultimately chose not to, as the price of her soul was too high. She then, helped Xavier’s students to expose the true villain behind the Arena – the Shadow King!
After the incident, Dazzler decided that she wanted to help undo some of the recent anti-mutant hysteria by using her powers to help people. For that, though, she needed to get some training, as she was now a walking target for every mutant hater. For a few weeks, she trained with the X-Men at Xavier’s mansion and honed her skills. Cyclops, especially, helped her focus her laser beams. All but Wolverine were rather supportive of her, even though Dazzler didn’t want to join the X-Men as she wanted to make it on her own. To convince Logan of her progress, she agreed to a special test. She would not know how or when, but the X-Men would attack her in a real-life situation. Eventually, while working as a singer in some shabby Las Vegas motel, Alison found herself hunted by Wolverine and Colossus. Dazzler outsmarted both of them in the fight and stopped short of killing Logan, proving to him and, more importantly, to herself that she was ready for the field. Dazzler continued to travel across the US, helping people in need, until she was taken into custody by bounty hunter O.Z. Chase and his dog, Cerberus, for bail jumping.
The charge was faked, but Ali did not resist, she wanted to clear up the error and agreed to be taken to Colorado. Yet, during the trip, she suddenly was teleported away. The Beyonder was interested in her and had whisked her away as he wanted to explore love and needed a sufficient partner. At first, he tried to impress her with his might but it did not work. He then made Alison his equal in power and consciousness but she still resisted him. After taking these extra powers away, he simply rearranged Dazzler’s mind that she admired him, but again found this not to his satisfaction. After restoring her, he tried a more subtle approach by giving her what she desired. Yet, when he reshaped reality and Dazzler was a successful singer, she again turned him down, as she wanted to earn her fame and not getting it handed on a silver plate. The Beyonder then found that she also wanted to help others and so he deliberately created situations and empowered villains for her to fight, but after she saw through it and walked away from the battle. Finally, the alien left her alone, and Ali returned to O.Z. Chase.
Once in Denver, Dazzler and O.Z. met with her father Carter Blaire, who pretended to have heard of his daughter’s problems and wanting to help. He had gathered evidence that Alison did not bail jump, as the legal matter with which she was charged with had already been settled by Roman Nekobah, and she needed not even appear before a court. O.Z. saw that the documents were correct and let her go, however it was not really Carter Blaire, only his body. He had been taken over by a man called Dust, one-half of the deadly duo of Dust and Silence. They were a couple of scientists who had created an enhancement drug decades ago and had even taken it themselves before knowing that, along with developing super powers, they would slowly die. They adjusted each in their own way. Silence needed to focus her telepathy through silence, while Dust refrained to using host bodies that would soon burn out and crumble to his namesake.
They wanted Alison because they had discovered that exposure to her light waves could increase the drug’s effectiveness and cure the side-effects at the same time. To ensure Dazzler’s cooperation, they had also kidnapped her mother and treated her with the same drug. Ali’s friends, O.Z. and the Beast, teamed up to help her and battle the many minions of the deadly couple. O.Z. had to shoot the remains of Carter Blaire to get rid of Dust. In direct battle with Silence, Dazzler found herself in a bad situation. She could not use her light power as that was exactly what the villain wanted, but she kept pumping more and more sound into Dazzler for her to absorb so that she would reach a critical limit and have to release her light. Yet, in this stressful moment, Ali managed to do a stunt she has never since been able to do. She managed to unleash the bottled up energy un-transduced as raw, ripping sound. This unexpected attack made Silence lose concentration and her frail form perished after years of being maintained by her will aloe. In the aftermath of the fight, Dazzler let the authorities believe that she had died in the fight as well and decided to keep a low profile for a while.
Disguising herself with a black wig, Alison re-joined the band of Lila Cheney as keyboarder and background singer. For many months it worked, although it pained her to see somebody else do what she had always been dreaming about. Slowly, she was influenced by the psychic entity Malice of the Marauders, who unlocked this buried jealousy and made Alison try to steal the center spot from Lila. Finally, Cheney contacted the X-Men about Ali’s strange behavior and Malice had some fun, hopping around their minds, pitting the team members against each other, before escaping from the scenery. When the X-Men told Alison about the Marauders killing hundreds of Morlocks during the Mutant Massacre, she realized that she, by herself, was a too obvious target and had to join the mutant team. Shortly afterwards, Alison was very frustrated and went for a stroll into town, where she recognized the Juggernaut. Determined to prove to the rest of the team that she was not as inexperienced and incapable as they thought, she battled him by herself, but was defeated.
Cain Marko believed that he had killed her and regretted it, as he actually was a fan. Out of respect, her gave her a decent funeral and buried her, unaware that she was only unconscious. Psylocke picked up her thoughts and Dazzler gathered her last reserves to send a flare through the earth, so that the others could dig her out before suffocating. Later, when the X-Men faced their heart’s desires in the Citadel of Light and Shadow, Alison found herself with multiple scenarios she had to choose from. Alison was insecure and finally accepted to become a homeless bag lady, because, as a "loser," she would have the luxury of self-pity and no longer would need to make any decisions. Returned from this unique experience, Rogue was not too pleased to see Alison run Danger Room scenarios with herself as the villain,. However, after saving each other lives in battle against the Marauders, the two women sorted out their differences.
During the Fall of the Mutants, the X-Men were opposed by Freedom Force. Mocking Dazzler’s concerns for her image and her looks, Spiral made fun of her by magically attaching Destiny’s face mask to Alison’s head, thus blinding her. The X-Men’s friend, Madelyne Pryor, then guided her, while Psylocke helped along, with telepathically telling Dazzler, where to shoot. Later, when the two groups had to work together against the mystical entity known as the Adversary, Spiral discovered that, because of the magical disturbances, she could not remove the mask. In the final battle, the X-Men's physical and spiritual essences were used as fuel for Forge's energy star, which closed the doorway to the Adversary’s plane of existence and saved the multiverse. They, in effect, died. Roma, a prisoner of the Adversary and guardian of the multiverse, used her powers to recreate the fallen X-Men from scratch, making her own minor alterations and Dazzler was remade without that cruel spell of Spiral.
The X-Men, now invisible to cameras and all forms of detection equipment, resettled to Australia, claiming an abandoned ghost town in the Australian Outback, formerly used by the Reavers, as their new base of operations. Isolated in the Australian Outback, Dazzler found herself attracted to teammate Longshot pretty soon and he responded. However, Rogue too was interested in him and they battled over the man various times, much to Longshot’s confusion. He didn’t understand the concept of jealousy and thought he could be friends with both of them. During Inferno, the X-Men were influenced by Limbo demons and it brought out the worst personality traits of the mutants. Both Dazzler and Longshot, who stems from the media-ruled Mojoverse, were only concerned about their looks and their images and stood idly by while the rest of their team battled for their lives. When it came to the big showdown between Jean and Madelyne, they complained about the others getting the "center spot" all the time.
Somewhat later, a villain needed the services of the X-Men and to make them do their bidding he captured both Dazzler and Diamondback of the Serpent Society. He exchanged their minds and would only reverse the switch after the mutants had brought him some artifacts he needed. Much to Alison’s anger, Diamondback smoked, ate sugar and even tried to seduce Wolverine while being in her body. Curiously, Dazzler used her light powers to look into the Siege Perilous. Inside, she saw various images of herself: singer, lawyer, housewife, superhero and bag lady. Suddenly, all versions died. The corpses united into a single image that told Alison everyone has to die sooner or later. The incident left her completely drained.
On the same day, the X-Men had to battle a merged Nimrod / Mastermold and were loosing, when Dazzler remembered the crystal inside her pocket. She enlarged it and the robot was pulled in, but it captured Rogue and both went through. Although Rogue had told Alison to do it, she blamed herself for her teammate’s disappearance. At least she could hope that Rogue somewhere got a fresh start. Later, when the team consisted only of Havok, Dazzler, Colossus and Psylocke, the X-Men fought in the Savage Land where Betsy received a precognitive vision of them being killed by The Reavers if they returned to Australia. After the mission, Gateway teleported them back to the Outback and Betsy could already telepathically sense the Reavers. The team was in no shape to fight, so Betsy suggested they use the crystal as an escape. After a short discussion, Dazzler and Colossus stepped through willingly, but Havok needed a little telepathic push. Psylocke entered last, right as the Reavers arrived. Pierce was mad to have been robbed of his revenge and crushed the shrinking crystal.
Dazzler was found washed ashore on Malibu beach by Lila Cheney’s bodyguard, Guido. He took her into Lila’s villa, although Cheney was not present. Through the various computer files of Lila’s mansion, Dazzler learned about her former life as songstress and reluctant superhero, even though she could not remember it. Alison went clubbing and was recognized by a guy who recently found the only remaining copy of the yet unreleased movie that Dazzler had taken part in. With Dazzler‘s miraculous return from the dead and the mystery of her technical invisibility, the movie could be promoted very easily and Alison Blaire again became a media celebrity. Yet, it also drew some unwanted attention.
Back when Eric Beale was blackmailing Alison and she refused by burning the movie, she had no idea that his entire fortune was dependent on it. He was now totally broke and had developed a fixation on Dazzler. He blamed her for everything that went wrong in his life. Hearing of her return, he unsuccessfully tried to kill her a few times and, finally, kidnapped her on the evening of her movie premiere. She awoke tied up in Beale‘s place, which actually was a shrine full of Dazzler pictures, and Beale tried to kill her once more. However, Alison used her light powers to soothe the man and make him see the beauty of life. The incident showed Dazzler that there were more important things than being a star.
Weeks later, Longshot contacted Lila and Dazzler for help, as he was on the run from Spiral and other bounty hunters of the Mojoverse. Lila tried to teleport them all to safety, but something screwed up her power and they ended up trapped in the Mojoverse. Having no other choice, Lila and Alison fought alongside Longshot in his rebellion. Even though Dazzler could not remember their times together among the X-Men, Alison felt she could trust and love this man. Fighting side-by-side in the rebellion, her memories returned over time. When her friends were captured, Alison managed to contact the X-Men for help. However, they ended up captives of Mojo as well. While his students had to star in Mojo’s movies, Xavier tried to break their mental hold and Alison worked together with some rebels.
In the end, they overcame the dictator and a new era for the Mojoverse began. Surprisingly, Xavier sensed that Alison was pregnant and so the happy couple decided to hand ruler ship to Mojo II, the Sequel. Off-panel, Ali and Longshot married (or had a similar ceremony in the Mojoverse), however things did not turn out well. Something seems to have happened to the unborn child, because when Dazzler next met the X-Men and Iceman tried to ask her about the child, Jean stopped him in midsentence. She sensed that there no longer was another life within Alison and, apparently, she had a miscarriage of the baby. Instead, she took in the X-Babies, who were hunted by various parties, as they still represented the cruel rule of Mojo. [Credit: UncannyX-Men.net]
Board History:
Sometime after taking in the X-Babies, Dazzler managed to get the babies away from harm in the Mojoverse, now safely protected. She returned once again to her reality where she stayed with the X-Men for a time and her marriage to Longshot still unclear. After a couple of missions, Dazzler made the brash decision to leave the mansion to pursue her singing career again. Time with Longshot, the miscarriage of her baby, and the hellacious battles in the Mojoverse exhausted Alison. It was time for a change to get away from the drama that action as a superhero brought into her life. Still recognized as a face in the music industry and in her movie, it turned out that Dazzler still had some popularity in the world, a world she felt like she left so long ago.
Retreating to her days of earning her spot in the music world, Alison started out low key, performing in night clubs and shows around New York and Los Angeles. Eventually, Ali settled in Los Angeles where she for a while began writing material for a new album. Through the small crowds and small gigs, the mistress of light began to discover a deep soul session within herself that spawned into lyrics for her new music. Singing much of her material around Los Angeles, Ali was signed to a record label once again where she got to record her new music that she wrote over time during her self-discovery and performing in the California area. Her new album went to number one with a four chart topping singles!
Finally, Alison had control of her life, her music career and was seeing the fruits of her labor. Not only that, but Ali was also living her life as an openly mutant celebrity. Suddenly, there was the attack in Washington D.C. from the X-Men's arch nemesis in Magneto, which was the day everything changed. From her home in Los Angels with great concern, she watched on the television screen the fall of the United States capital and her friends doing their best to stop the mad man. The X-Men were able to defeat Magneto, but the damage was done. The President was dead and the relations between mutants and humans took a turn for the worse.
Tension sky rocketed to an all time high. The popular artist known as Dazzler was starting to see major backlash of her albums and movies. Bible thumpers began preaching mutant hate, even using Dazzler's name in their speeches to further demonstrate their convictions. In a small town in middle-America, there was a fire pit of Alison's albums, pictures, movies, and other merchandise thrown into the flames. Many reporters tried to contact Dazzler for comment, especially asking her about the mutants who fought in Washington D.C. Ashamed at the media for thinking that just because she's a mutant, they'd assumed she apparently knows every mutant on Earth. She could only roll her eyes in annoyance and remain in her home.
Ultimately, the major break down came when Professor Charles Xavier, a mutant support characterized in the media was the target of an attack on national television. Dazzler's heart stopped beating at that instant and her breath escaped from her chest. She could not believe what she saw. Immediately, Dazzler knew plans had to be made. It would seem that trouble never stopped finding its way into her life. Apparently, some situations needed her and so did her family - the X-Men. Needing to change her look for the outside world and remain obscure, Dazzler shaved her head, opting for a short hair style and then dying it pink. She did not wear her fancy fashion designer clothes, putting on normal regular every day clothes. Packing some of her things, she also included some of her fashion designer clothes and a golden blonde wig for just incase the famous Dazzler figure is put into the spotlight again, all into a large duffle bag, Dazzler bought a bus ticket and began her trip back New York to see some old friends.

.: SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
::: Los Angeles, California :::
Hollywood, the home of the world's greatest movie making capital. The place stars are born and immortalized by the public. It didn't matter what kind of superstar you were. Movie celebrity, dance celebrity, and/or music celebrity. Los Angeles was the home for many. Among many of the current movie stars and/or music stars, one popular artist stuck out among many. In her secluded and gated town home community was one such popular "diva" of the music world - Alison Blair, The Dazzler.
For many years, Ali has been a music genius for so many who have followed and listened to her music. She is considered by many critics one of the best voices in the world! Returning from obscurity, which in actuality, she came back from the Mojoverse - Dazzler shocked the world when she made a big comeback to the music world with a number one debuting album. Over the course of the new few years, the admitted openly mutant was one of MTV's best music artists and in high demand by much of the media. For the first time, Ali was living her dream as a music artist and living comfortably doing it.
She wasn't trapped in a dreaded warped reality like the Mojoverse and not putting her life on the line on an every day basis. For once, everything in life felt... stable. Truly, the former X-Man superhero is now Alison Blair, music artist with multiple number one singles and a platinum album that hit number one in the States and in multiple countries around the world. Yes, the dream happened, but like all dreams - it soon came to a crashing end. Alison for a long time as an open mutant to the public was a key inspiration for the mutant/human relations, showing mutants are people too. Not all mutants are dangerous.
Not all mutants are dangerous, huh? Alison couldn't be any more wrong. Hard to believe some time has past, but the events of Washington D.C. when Magento leveled the country's capital and the President killed. Humans were quick to turn on mutants and any known mutants in the public eye quickly faced backlash. Alison felt the harshness of this backlash on celebrity mutants. Her albums and other merchandise taken to center of towns and burned in a gigantic bonfire. Sales crashed and eventually, people were no longer interested in Dazzler, one of the world's greatest voices. More than ever, Alison felt alone.
The blonde diva of pop remained secluded in her home for a long time. She drank. She didn't shower for days at a time. She didn't eat, instead dropping more weight. Then one day, Alison watched when old friend and mentor, Professor Charles Xavier speak to congress on the mutant registration act. He was attacked and his condition unknown. Alison's mouth dropped when watching the actions go down on her television screen. Placing her glass of liquor on the table, still in her short silk night gown and a silk robe, she began to cry.
"God, can you hear me?" whispered Ali as she leaned over and shrunken arms gripping her stomach. Her stare at the ground before her watered eyes looked up above.
A pause lingered in between as if she waited to see if the man upstairs would answer, but it remained silent. "I don't understand. Why Xavier? The man doesn't deserved to be harmed. And why does my dream have to be put on the back burner? I've lost so much in my life. My husband... and my baby. Now my career... my dream." Sighing and tears still falling down her cheeks, the songstress laid back into her sofa. She continued talking to God, or at least she hoped there was a God listening. "People say you have a plan for us all. That you have a path for each of us we must go on and discover. Paths we must meet challenges and obstacles on to make us only a better person in the end. Challenges that we may not always win, but eventually find there is a reason for everything. Are you trying to tell me I must go back to them?"
"Well are you?!" said Ali with a raised tone and a slight hint of anger.
Still silence, Alison stopped her tears, leaning over to pick up her glass of liquor. Standing up, she began leaving the living room area of her town home, slowly climbing the stairs for her bedroom. Thoughts of the X-Men, her extended family and the incident that occurred to Xavier ran through her head. Then she remembered her time with Longshot and in the Mojoverse. It was all such a different life, drastic in comparison to the life she recently led as a celebrity. Once in her room, she went for the bathroom where she looked in the mirror, seeing her now scarcely almost skeletal facial features. Rubbing her hand along her slimmer cheek, she leaned closer towards the mirror. The woman in front of her was not the same woman she was as an X-Man and later a celebrity.
Suddenly, Alison couldn't believe what she was seeing. Her breathing rapidly becoming faster, she felt fear and then frustration. It was time for a change. Going through the counter drawers, Alison searched desperately for a certain device. Thankfully, she found what she was looking for. An electric razor. Turning on the vibrating device, she took one glance in the mirror and nodded. Immediately, she scrambled in the drawers of her sink counter in the bathroom, finding hair dye. She grabbed a box with pink coloring - it was meant to be for fun or something to try eventually. But now seemed like a good time. Eventually, she cleaned herself up by taking a shower and then using the hair color. While waiting on the dye, she began backing a long duffle bag, stuffing clothes and small personal items.
Going back into the bathroom later, she unwrapped her golden blonde hair, well what was formally her golden hair now pink. Grabbing the razor, she turned on the electric device, grabbing some of her long flowing hair. Looking in the mirror, "Here goes nothing," she said to herself directly by viewing into the mirror. Slowly and successfully, Alison began shaving her head and when it was all done, she now had very short pink shaven hair.
Getting dressed into some tan pants and brown chaps, then black boots and a black leather jacket, Alison grabbed her duffle bag, but then in the middle of getting set to leave, she looked back at her closet. In her view, she saw a long golden blonde wig sitting in the closet on a plastic white model head. Going towards the closet, she nodded and realized she had to have an alternative. Grabbing some old garments like her mirrored uniform from her early days, skates, the blue eye masks, and the wig, she packed it all into her duffle bag as well. With the bag strapped across her chest, she began to leave the room, but found her liquor glass laying on the chester drawer.
Putting the glass to her lips, she suddenly stopped. Thinking twice, Alison looked behind her at a giant concert poster of herself singing and the Dazzler logo on it. Forcefully, Ali threw the glass at the poster, shattering it into pieces and the poster frame as well. Leaving her room, Alison exited her town home, going to the garage. There, Ali found a motorcycle - looked like a honda with a helmet. Fiercely driving off, she left behind her high celebrity life, but before driving off along her "path", Alison stopped at the front part of her lawn, staking a FOR SALE sign. A new chapter has begun for Alison Blair... The Dazzler.

Apologies for the double posting, but thought I'd let y'all know I finally got a sample up for her. It is only the first half of an RP I plan to write for her as she travels back to New York. You'll see in the sample, I took some liberty with Dazzler in probably a far different direction since returning from the Mojoverse. I hope that it will be satisfactory and enjoyable for you guys to read.
